Um cinegrafista (Michail Kaufman) filma um dia despretensioso na vida da cidade moderna: Primeiro as ruas vazias ao amanhecer que vão gradualmente se enchendo, depois os habitantes de Moscou, ou de outra cidade soviética no trabalho ou no lazer. São as pessoas comuns mostrando a verdade da vida cotidiana.
